Science in its pure form is often likened to fine art, instigated by a quest for knowledge or understanding.
Applied science (or technology) resembles more applied art (design) in approach, finding practical solutions to a problem. Is the development of this “designer baby” technology present us with a good solution?
Prenatal prevention is not so much a solution to cancer - that would be a cure - it is a technology attempting to solve problems emerging from another technology (genetic screening). Problems derived from our difficulty to deal with this available knowledge, and with its implications: uncertainty, personal responsibility and parental guilt.
