From the perspective of Darwinian evolution, reproduction has a single purpose: to mix our genes with another person’s to help ours survive and propagate - to help our own genes thrive in the next generation. But where does the desire to procreate come from when the genetic material in question is known to be dangerous, even deadly?
Could it be that the biological purpose of this family is to preserve this mutation? Is the BRCA a parasitic evil mutation, clinging to the family tree, preserving itself at the expense of their well being? Or is it an important evolutionary component, and the family is simply a host, keeping it alive within the genetic fabric of society?
